The European Lifeguard Academy was established to upgrade the standards of professional lifeguards working at beaches and pools throughout Europe. The continuing growth of marine related leisure and tourism has contributed to the increasing need for risk assessment. This in turn requires trained professional safety cover to prevent associated hazards and incidents.

Our Staff

All of our instructors are vastly experienced and have been trained to the highest standards. The academy has carefully selected them for both their practical knowledge and ability to train their students in a friendly and supportive manner.

Courses

Academy courses are run either at our centre in Bournemouth, at employer's sites throughout the UK or at our European training venue in the South of France.
Our staff offer intensive courses in Beach Lifeguarding, Pool Lifeguarding, First Aid, AED and Extended Life Support as well as a range of Health and Safety related areas. Whatever level of instruction you require we have either the ability to meet your needs or the skills necessary to devise courses specific to your requirements .

In addition to training we offer a comprehensive water safety consultancy service.

Academy Life
Whether being trained in the UK or Europe you will literally eat, sleep, live and breathe lifeguarding for the whole duration of the course. Experience the comradeship of Academy life while you are on the course and benefit from working as part of a team.
At our training venues in Bournemouth or the South of France we also offer numerous extra-curricular activities which you can participate in should you have the energy !!!
Bournemouth boasts more night-clubs per square mile than London's Soho, whilst also offering the additional attractions of white-water speedboat rides from the pier, jet-ski hire, wakeboarding, baloon rides, parascending, evening beach barbecues .
Be taught by the best qualified staff at the best facilities on offer.

With the recent birth of the RNLI Beach Rescue Scheme, the quality and profile of lifeguarding in Britain is being elevated beyond the traditional attitudes of most councils and beach users. Since the start of the Beach Rescue Project in 2001 ELA instructors have carried out initial qualification and continuous, on-the-job training for the RNLI lifeguards in Poole, Bournemouth and Weymouth.

One of our latest developments is the running of courses from Canet Plage, near Perpignon in the South of France, where warmer water and weather can make teaching Beach Lifeguard courses possible nearly all year round.

ELA are currently formulating a database of qualified lifeguards in the UK, with the intention of providing an employment tool for both employers throughout Europe and successfull candidates of our courses.

We are happy to negotiate with anyone who wishes to tender their entire water safety management operation.
